San Antonio Officer Shoots Knife-Wielding Man at Park

San Antonio police have identified the knife-wielding man shot by an officer over the weekend at Woodlawn Lake Park. Chase Deckard-Thomas, 30, reportedly refused to drop the knife when approached by Park Police Officer Kimberly Alonso, prompting her to fire two rounds, striking him in the torso. Deckard-Thomas is now hospitalized and faces charges of aggravated assault against a public servant.

On Saturday afternoon, Deckard-Thomas drove his car onto a walking trail before crashing into the lake. He emerged from the vehicle armed with a knife, approaching Officer Alonso in an aggressive manner. Alonso, a nine-year veteran of the police force, is currently on administrative duty as investigations into the shooting continue, raising questions about public safety and police conduct in critical situations.
