South Dakota Reports Record Pheasant Harvest

Hunters in South Dakota celebrate the most successful pheasant season in over a decade, with more than 1.3 million roosters harvested during the 2024 hunting season. This significant increase is welcomed by both local hunters and the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Department, which attributes the success to effective wildlife conservation efforts and favorable weather conditions throughout the year.

In total, approximately 380,000 pheasants were also taken from designated shooting preserves, highlighting the thriving hunting culture in the state. The impressive harvest numbers underscore South Dakota’s reputation as a prime destination for pheasant hunting enthusiasts, making it a vital part of both its wildlife management and local economy.
