St. George’s Clerk Charged After Fake Robbery Report

RCMP have charged Mary Spicer, the town clerk of St. George’s, after determining that a reported armed robbery at the town council office was fabricated. The investigation, which began following a call received around 3:30 PM on Tuesday, uncovered that the clerk had allegedly misappropriated roughly $11,000 in cash from the office, leading to her arrest.

Authorities report that Spicer, 61, is facing charges of public mischief and theft over $5,000, with a court appearance scheduled for a future date. The case has raised significant concerns about trust and accountability within local government structures, prompting an ongoing investigation by the RCMP.
