A two-hour standoff in Salem ended with the arrest of 55-year-old Mark Arthur Coutis, who reportedly brandished a handgun in the street, prompting multiple police calls. After fleeing the scene, Coutis was eventually located by officers, leading to a negotiation that encouraged him to surrender peacefully.

During their investigation, police seized six firearms from Coutis’ home, including several rifles. He now faces potential charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, stalking, and menacing, stemming from prior incidents, as he was already wanted for failing to appear in court regarding previous firearm offenses.
