A taxi driver in Gwinnett County takes decisive action after being held at gunpoint during an armed robbery on February 19. The driver, who was dropping off a passenger when the attack occurred, managed to follow the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Gerson Alvarez, and confront him at a nearby apartment complex, despite being threatened with a Glock 19 pistol.
As the driver engaged in a physical struggle with Alvarez, he called a friend for assistance, and together they subdued the suspect until police arrived. Officers discovered that Alvarez had a broken nose and was in possession of cash—approximately $553—that was returned to the driver. He now faces multiple serious charges including armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a felony. The outcome leaves the victim relieved, noting the arrest means “one less person” posing a threat in the community.
