In a significant operation aimed at reducing gun violence, Kalamazoo authorities arrest two individuals on weapons charges Saturday. Officers from the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) pursued Somarion Bennett, a known offender, and a 17-year-old who was suspected of concealing a firearm during a foot chase on Portage Street.
During the operation, police recovered two guns, one reported stolen from Benton Harbor in 2024. Bennett faces multiple charges, including carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest, while the juvenile is being held at the Kalamazoo Juvenile Home on similar charges.
