U.S. Army Replicates Article on WWII Japanese American Heroes

The U.S. Army has republished an article celebrating the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a distinguished Japanese American unit from World War II, after facing criticism for its earlier removal. This combat team, along with the 100th Infantry Battalion, is celebrated as the most decorated unit in U.S. military history, having earned 21 Congressional Medals of Honor and a multitude of other accolades during their service in Europe.

The initial withdrawal of the article was met with strong disapproval from veterans’ families, lawmakers, and community leaders, who viewed it as an attempt to erase significant military history. Notably, many soldiers in the 442nd volunteered from internment camps where their families were placed following the Pearl Harbor attack, embodying a profound commitment to serve despite facing discrimination. “We must never allow their sacrifices to be erased from history,” said Hawaii Governor Josh Green, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging these heroes and their contributions to American history.
