12-Year-Old Dies in Accidental Shooting at Home

A 12-year-old boy has tragically died from injuries sustained in an accidental shooting at a residence in Cumberland, according to Police Chief Suzanne Crooke-Woodland. The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on June 27, when police responded to reports of a shooting at the Knoll Ridge Apartments and found the boy in critical condition, later pronounced dead at an Indianapolis hospital.

Witnesses reported that firearms were readily accessible within the home, prompting concerns about gun safety practices. This incident marks the second fatal shooting involving a child in Marion County within a month, igniting further discussions on the implications of gun ownership and safety education. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is promoting free gun lock distributions to help prevent such tragedies in the future.
