Three Men Charged with Hunting Violations in Louisiana

Three men from Central Louisiana, Rickey Bordelon, Kurtis Lavigne, and William Pennington, have been charged with multiple deer hunting violations, including harvesting deer beyond the legal limits and failing to comply with tagging regulations. The violations were discovered during a routine check on January 18 at Lake Ophelia National Wildlife Refuge in Avoyelles Parish, revealing that the trio had illegally harvested 12 deer across several parishes during the current hunting season.

In addition to facing fines that could reach up to $750 per illegal deer, the men are liable for significant civil restitution based on the replacement cost of the illegally taken deer—Bordelon owes $3,249, Lavigne faces $9,748, and Pennington is responsible for $6,498. These actions highlight the efforts of Louisiana wildlife enforcement officials to uphold hunting regulations and protect local ecosystems from overharvesting.
