FBI Agents Sue to Block DOJ from Listing January 6 Cases

Two groups of FBI agents have filed separate lawsuits in Washington, D.C., aiming to prevent the Justice Department from compiling a list of agents involved in the January 6 Capitol riot cases and President Donald Trump’s criminal prosecutions. The lawsuits, initiated by the FBI Agents Association and the Center for Employment Justice, underscore deep concerns over potential retaliation against the agents, as they allege that such a list could infringe upon their First Amendment rights and violate the federal Privacy Act.

These legal actions were sparked by recent events, including calls from Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio for retaliation against federal agents involved in prosecutions linked to the riot. The lawsuits argue that the compilation of agents’ identities poses risks not only to their careers but could also make their personal information permanently accessible online. As the Justice Department sets a deadline for this information, the agents emphasize a genuine fear of facing career repercussions, even if the information is not used for terminations.
