Akron Police Involved in Fatal Shooting After Gunfire Exchange

Akron police engage in a fatal exchange of gunfire, shooting a 39-year-old man after identifying a “vehicle of interest” linked to a reported stolen gun. The incident unfolded in the Summit Lake neighborhood around 8:30 a.m., prompting a rapid response from law enforcement when the suspect allegedly fired at officers, who returned fire and struck him. Witnesses reported hearing 20-30 gunshots, adding to the urgency surrounding this incident.

Despite immediate medical assistance, the suspect later succumbed to his injuries at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. In light of the shooting, three officers have been placed on paid administrative leave as investigations are underway by the Ohio Bureau of Investigations and the Office of Professional Standards and Accountability.
