Goodwill Tackles Gun Violence in Louisville with New Initiative

Goodwill Industries of Kentucky has launched a partnership with Volunteers of America, the Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods (OSHN), and UofL Hospital to enhance the Pivot to Peace program, which directly addresses gun violence in Louisville. Despite an impressive nearly 40% decrease in gun-related incidents over the past two years, city officials stress the importance of ongoing efforts to ensure community safety.

The partnership has secured a $3 million federal grant to fund community violence intervention programs focused on neighborhoods such as Algonquin and Russell. With trained personnel actively engaging with individuals aged 14 to 35, the initiative aims to offer vital resources and assistance, particularly to those at risk of gang involvement. “We’re just now starting this initiative,” says Darleen Horton, program director for Pivot to Peace, underscoring a proactive approach to curbing violence.
