The T-56 assault rifle belonging to a missing Police Constable from the Mount Lavinia Police Station has been recovered, alongside 30 rounds of ammunition, after being found buried in a garden in Badovita. The Constable was reported missing on February 9 and is suspected to have fled the country, with authorities indicating he may have traveled to Dubai. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding the management of police firearms.
Following a tip-off, police have arrested a 41-year-old resident of Mount Lavinia for possession of the weapon. The investigation, which is now being pursued by four investigative teams, is directed by the Senior Superintendent of Police overseeing the Mount Lavinia Division. As authorities continue their probe into the officer’s disappearance and the recovery of the weapon, further developments are anticipated.
