Five-Year Sentence for Man Who Left Kids with Guns

Martinez Castillo Lloyd receives a five-year prison sentence after he left his children and their friends unsupervised with accessible firearms, resulting in an 11-year-old boy being shot in the face. The incident occurred in March 2024 when Lloyd, prohibited from owning guns due to a prior felony, left two loaded weapons in an unlocked drawer while he went to a store.

Prosecutors reveal that the children had previously played with the guns multiple times before the shooting took place, raising concerns about negligent firearm storage. After one child accidentally discharged a firearm, critically injuring their friend, Lloyd returned to find police at the scene, highlighting the severe consequences of his actions.
