Florida parents arrested after toddler’s fatal shooting

A 2-year-old boy is dead following a shooting incident in a Port St. Lucie home, prompting the arrest of his mother, Natalie Cruz, and her fiancé, Quintenn Wesley. Police found the boy with a gunshot wound to the head while a 9 mm handgun was discovered nearby. Investigators revealed that Cruz, a convicted felon, was in the master bedroom with the child when she heard the gunfire.

Authorities indicated that both Cruz and Wesley face charges related to culpable negligence for allegedly allowing a minor access to a firearm. Notably, the police disclosed that Wesley owned the unsecured handguns found at the scene, illustrating a serious breach of safety protocols in a home with two children present. This tragedy raises alarms about firearm access and child safety in households.
