Waterville Woman Sentenced for Gun Purchase Scheme

Nikeshia Knight, a 25-year-old resident of Waterville, is sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for her involvement in a straw purchase of a firearm. Knight directed Jason Palmer, 44, to buy the gun on her behalf, knowing she would not clear a mandatory background check, and later compensated him with fentanyl for the illegal transaction.

The case highlights a concerning trend in illegal gun acquisitions, as it underscores the serious consequences of circumventing firearm laws. Following her guilty plea in October 2024, Knight’s sentencing reflects the judiciary’s strict stance on such offenses, aiming to deter similar acts in the future. Palmer has also been sentenced to over a year in prison for his role in the scheme.
