Two Men Admit Guilt in Florida-Puerto Rico Gun Scheme

Joseph Alfredo Bonano Aviles and Jose Javier Corchado Montanez have pleaded guilty to a firearms trafficking conspiracy that operated between Florida and Puerto Rico, with the potential for five years in federal prison looming over them. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives uncovered their scheme, which involved the illegal shipment of multiple firearms from Florida to Puerto Rico, during a targeted investigation between September and November 2021.

This case is part of the larger Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and enhancing community safety through collaboration among law enforcement and local organizations. As the issue of illegal firearms continues to rise, the plea from Aviles and Montanez underscores the critical efforts needed to combat such trafficking operations in the United States.
