Gun Used in Triple Murders Should Have Been Surrendered

Documents reveal that the gun alleged to have been used by Nathan Gingles in the February 16 shootings of his estranged wife and two others should have been surrendered to authorities under court order. Despite a restraining order that required him to relinquish firearms in December, investigators discovered a Sig Sauer P320 with a suppressor had been returned to Gingles, leading to tragic consequences.

After the incident, the Broward Sheriff’s Office revealed shortcomings in their protocol, including the failure to collect Gingles’ firearms following a second restraining order. Sheriff Gregory Tony announced an internal review into why Gingles had access to his weapons, which had been returned to him after an earlier injunction was dismissed. This case has raised significant concerns about domestic violence protections and the enforcement of gun surrender mandates in the state.
