Four men from Montgomery have been indicted on gun charges related to the tragic mass shooting that occurred during Tuskegee University’s homecoming on November 10, 2023. The incident resulted in the death of 18-year-old La’Tavion Johnson and injuries to 16 others, 12 of whom were shot. While the indictment includes charges for discharging a firearm on school property, no one has yet been held accountable for Johnson’s death, which has left the community seeking answers.
The indicted men, aged between 20 and 25, are connected to firearms offenses, including possession of a handgun with a machine gun conversion device. One of the accused, Jaquez Ke’Von Myrick, pleaded guilty in federal court earlier this year for similar charges, raising questions about weapon regulation and safety on campus. This shooting occurred at an unauthorized gathering, prompting conversations around event approvals and campus security protocols.
