Providence Man Receives Double Life for 2021 Murder

Shawn Mann, a 34-year-old Providence resident, has been sentenced to double life in prison plus 60 years for his involvement in a 2021 drive-by shooting that tragically claimed the life of 24-year-old Miya Brophy-Baermann. Found guilty of murder and several related charges, Mann’s actions on August 1, 2021, led to the death of Brophy-Baermann, who was not the intended target but was struck while with her boyfriend. Surveillance footage played a crucial role in the case, showing the shooting from a dark sedan that fled the scene shortly after.

During the investigation, law enforcement discovered crucial evidence linking Mann to the crime, including a ghost gun found in a backpack he discarded during a traffic stop. This firearm was matched to the bullet casings recovered from the scene, confirming its use in the drive-by shooting. Co-defendant Isaiah Pinkerton, who participated in the attack, was sentenced to double life plus 50 years earlier this year, highlighting the serious consequences of such violent acts in the community.
