New Haven police are investigating the tragic death of an 8-year-old boy who was discovered on the kitchen floor suffering from a gunshot wound late Sunday night. Authorities were alerted just before 11 p.m. and responded swiftly, but the boy was pronounced dead after being transported to Yale New Haven Hospital.
Officers believe the boy lived at the residence and was with family members during the incident, which police currently assess as an accidental shooting. A firearm was located at the scene, and detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are actively working to understand the series of events leading to this heartbreaking loss. New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson described the incident as a “tragic, preventable and senseless death.”
