NC Man Convicted from Jan. 6 to Speak at GOP Event

James Grant, a North Carolina man convicted of leading an assault on police during the January 6 Capitol attack, is scheduled to speak at a GOP event next week, where organizers label him a “J6 Victim.” Grant was found guilty of multiple felonies, including assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon, and was sentenced to three years in prison. Following his conviction, he was one of over 1,500 individuals pardoned by President Trump for related charges, prompting significant controversy regarding his designation as a victim.

The Western Wake Republican Club promotes Grant’s appearance, although several listed speakers have claimed they were unaware of him prior to the event. Grant’s involvement in the Capitol riot has drawn national scrutiny, particularly regarding his role in the initial breaches that allowed thousands to storm the building—actions that resulted in serious physical harm to law enforcement. By portraying him as a victim, the GOP group raises questions about accountability and the perception of January 6 participants.
