Seattle Proposes New After-Hours Club Regulations

The Seattle City Attorney’s office is prioritizing gun violence concerns as it proposes new regulations for after-hours clubs, particularly those operating between 2 AM and 5 AM. The proposed ordinance aims to combat a rise in late-night shootings connected to certain venues by enforcing stricter rules, such as requiring age restrictions, trained security personnel, and security checks for weapons at entry points.

These measures, which stem from a previous initiative by former councilmember Tanya Woo, are now moving forward with support from City Attorney Ann Davison. Venues that do not comply could face hefty fines—up to $5,000 for repeat violations—and businesses would be subject to a licensing system intended to regulate social gatherings and ensure public safety in Seattle’s nightlife scene.
