Harrisburg Police Launch Doorbell Camera Initiative

The Harrisburg Police Department is launching a program to distribute free doorbell cameras to residents in neighborhoods most affected by gun violence. With funding from a recent grant, the department plans to provide 133 “Blink” cameras along with mounted lights, which will be installed by a contractor at no cost to the residents.

Captain Russell Winder emphasizes that the initiative aims to empower citizens and enhance community safety. He clarifies that the cameras will not be integrated with city systems, allowing residents to control the use of footage as they see fit, thereby fostering community engagement in crime prevention. Interested residents will be contacted directly by the Community Services Division to participate in the program.
