The Town of Aurora’s board has unanimously declared the local deer population a nuisance, prompted by concerns from the community regarding overpopulation. The resolution, passed on Monday night, aims to promote a healthier environment, prevent disease transmission, reduce deer-related vehicle accidents, and minimize crop damage for local farmers.
To tackle the issue, the Town will implement New York State’s Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP), which grants landowners two extra deer permits for hunters. With local residents expressing support for the initiative, town officials are hopeful that proper management can effectively control the deer population around the Village of Aurora and help address broader community concerns.
