SAPD Body Cam Footage Released After Officer Shooting

San Antonio police have released body camera footage showing an officer shooting 28-year-old Aaron Huerta-Hernandez, who allegedly aimed a gun at officers during a standoff. The incident unfolded early on March 2 at an illegal after-hours drinking establishment on West Military Drive, where Huerta-Hernandez was barricaded inside after reportedly pointing a firearm at police. The footage captures Officer Jose Claire issuing commands for Huerta-Hernandez to drop the weapon before firing multiple shots, striking him.

The standoff ended after several hours when SWAT and negotiators arrived, prompting everyone inside the establishment to exit safely. Huerta-Hernandez, who was later charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, is currently hospitalized for treatment. This incident raises important questions about the events leading to the shooting, particularly as the footage does not capture the first armed individual exiting the bar or when Huerta-Hernandez brandished his firearm.
