Police Prevent Potential Violence at Jacksonville Beach Events

Jacksonville Beach Police Chief Gene Paul N. Smith reports that his department successfully prevented “something really bad from happening” during the recent HBCU Beach Day and Senior Skip Day events, which drew large crowds to the area. Authorities recovered four handguns, including one stolen firearm, from minors, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety during these gatherings.

Last year’s St. Patrick’s Day saw multiple shootings that left one dead and several injured, prompting increased police presence this year. Smith emphasized his department’s commitment to law enforcement in the coming weeks, stating that they will be vigilant against any illicit activities, particularly from rival gangs, to ensure a safe environment for beachgoers.
