Over 1,000 Replica Firearms Seized at LAX

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Los Angeles International Airport have seized more than 1,000 replica firearms over the past six months, raising alarms about the potential dangers of imitation weapons. These items, misdeclared as “Alloy Miniature Toys” from China, violate federal regulations that require toy firearms to have distinguishing features to prevent misidentification with real guns.

CBP officials stress that if these replicas reached the streets, they could create serious risks for both the public and law enforcement. So far, they have destroyed 953 of the seized items, including replica suppressors, underscoring a collaborative effort with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to prevent illegal products from entering the U.S. market. The illegal display of imitation firearms is punishable under California law, emphasizing the importance of compliance with safety regulations.
