Albuquerque Police Share Details of Officer-Involved Shootings

Albuquerque police disclose new information regarding two fatal encounters between officers and allegedly armed individuals in late February. In the first incident on February 23, Benjamin Raymond, accused of domestic violence, confronted officers while pointing a gun, prompting them to open fire. The second shooting involved David McElvain, who was found unresponsive and allegedly armed during a welfare check, leading officers to fire upon his threat.

Both cases are now under investigation by a multiagency task force, which will deliver findings to the Bernalillo County district attorney to evaluate potential criminal charges. The Albuquerque Police Department is also reviewing the conduct of its officers to ensure compliance with departmental policies, further emphasizing the significance of these events for community safety and police accountability.
