House Advances National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act

The House Judiciary Committee has advanced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which will allow individuals with valid concealed carry permits to transport firearms across state lines, similar to driver’s licenses. With over 21.5 million concealed carry permit holders in the U.S., this legislation could significantly alter firearm mobility for travelers, especially in states that currently refuse to recognize permits from other jurisdictions.

Supporters argue that the bill enhances personal safety, particularly for vulnerable populations, while critics warn it could undermine states’ rights and lead to confusion regarding varying local gun laws. Notably, police chiefs overwhelmingly support reciprocity, citing its potential to deter crime, as studies indicate that concealed carry laws are associated with lower crime rates.
