Fayette County Man Sentenced for Gun Possession Crimes

Bryson J. England, a 43-year-old resident of Oak Hill in Fayette County, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison after being found guilty of possessing firearms as a convicted felon. This sentence, announced on April 3, 2025, also includes three years of parole following his release. The conviction stems from a traffic stop on February 2, 2024, where law enforcement discovered both a loaded handgun in England’s possession and an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle found in the vehicle.

Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from owning firearms, and England was aware of this restriction due to a previous felony conviction for unlawful wounding in 2003. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of local and federal law enforcement agencies, including the West Virginia State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, to combat gun ownership among felons. The community’s response to gun-related crimes remains a focal point for ongoing discussions about public safety and legislative measures.
