Candidate in North Vancouver Faces Past Firearms Convictions

Oliver King, an Independent candidate for the North Vancouver-Capilano riding, is under scrutiny due to his U.S. conviction for illegally dealing in firearms and multiple false statements made to border authorities. Originally sentenced to nearly six years in prison in 2011, King’s sentence was reduced to 30 months after an appeal resulted in the dropping of one charge. Despite the serious nature of his past offenses, King remains in the race and continues to engage with voters through social media.

Documents reveal that King was convicted of transporting 21 firearms across the border, raising alarms about his intentions to transfer the weapons to Canada in violation of laws. When approached for comments regarding his criminal record, King evaded questions and expressed frustration with reporters. As he campaigns, King promotes his platforms on political reform and enhancing international trade, bringing his controversial past into sharp focus as Canadians head to the polls.
