Willie Ray Cummings, Jr., a 29-year-old Flint resident, has been convicted on multiple felony charges, including illegal possession of a ghost gun and assaulting police officers during an attempted arrest. The conviction comes after Cummings resisted deputies who tried to pull him over while he was riding an unregistered mini bike, leading to a confrontation where he attacked one deputy before being subdued with a taser.
During the altercation, deputies discovered a ghost gun in Cummings’ pocket, loaded with sixteen rounds of 9mm ammunition. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton emphasized the increasing dangers posed by ghost guns, which are typically untraceable due to their lack of serial numbers, making them a significant concern for law enforcement as violent crimes involving such weapons rise nationwide. Cummings faces a minimum of five years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for May 19.
