FSU Shooting Suspect Identified as Student Phoenix Ikner

Authorities have identified Florida State University student Phoenix Ikner, 20, as the suspect in a shooting that left two people dead and six others injured near the campus student union. The weapon used in the attack is confirmed to be a former service weapon belonging to Ikner’s mother, who is a deputy sheriff in Leon County. Local law enforcement underscores the significance of the suspect’s access to firearms, particularly noting the implications of him being the son of a law enforcement officer.

Michael Anestis, executive director of the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center and an FSU alumnus, expressed concern over the pattern of gun violence. He shared his personal connection to the university and highlighted the need for deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding gun access and shooter profiles. “There’s no single profile to shooters,” he stated, emphasizing the varied backgrounds of individuals involved in such tragedies. Investigators continue to probe the motive, as Ikner has chosen not to speak with police.
