House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell criticized the Republican-controlled Legislature for its failure to enact measures that would make firearms less accessible, stating, “We can honor the Second Amendment while also doing what we can to prevent these needless, awful acts of violence.”
Legislation proposals include a bill from Rep. Christine Hunschofsky that mandates background checks on all firearm sales and prohibits untraceable guns. The urgency is underscored by the fact that the 20-year-old shooter used firearms owned by his stepmother, highlighting gaps in current laws.
