A Milwaukee police officer, Vashaun Young, is facing felony charges after allegedly firing a gun twice toward homes and near a school while off duty. The incident, which occurred in March 2022, was captured on an 11-second cellphone video that shows Young driving with a handgun and discharging it without appearing to aim. The event took place within 1,000 feet of Nova High School, raising significant public safety concerns.
The investigation into Young began when police analyzed the video and corroborated the gunfire with Shotspotter technology. Charged with endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, Young faces up to 17 years and six months in prison if convicted. His initial court appearance is set for May 12, 2025.
