A Denver man, now 19 years old, pleads guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of 14-year-old Josiaz “JoJo” Aragon, who was killed following a planned gun sale. The tragic incident occurred on August 8, 2022, when police found Aragon’s body at a local baseball field after he allegedly attempted to sell a firearm to Diego Eugene Lopez, a classmate known to him.
During the altercation, Aragon was reportedly shot in the back, then subjected to further violence, including being pistol-whipped and stabbed. Lopez faces a maximum sentence of 48 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for July 18. “With this plea, Diego Lopez is finally accepting responsibility for his horrific and senseless actions,” noted District Attorney John Walsh, emphasizing the gravity of the crime and the devastating impact on the victim’s family.
