Richmond Heights Man Convicted of Armed ATM Robbery

A jury finds 20-year-old Joel Travis guilty of armed robbery after a 33-second attack on an ATM technician outside a Chase Bank in South Euclid. The technician, who was working on the ATM, testified that robbers thrust a gun to his head and demanded cash, leading to the theft of $126,000. Prosecutors presented GPS evidence that placed Travis at the crime scene, while items related to the robbery were found in his home.

This robbery highlights how quickly crime can unfold; it was executed in less than a minute and led to Travis’ conviction on multiple charges, including aiding in the use of a firearm during a violent crime. In a bid to deny his involvement, Travis claimed he was asleep in the getaway car, but law enforcement tracked his movements via GPS and subsequent investigations. Sentencing is set for August 13, and authorities are still searching for his accomplices.
