Michael Tatum, a 35-year-old resident of Oakland, has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for illegally possessing multiple firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Authorities discovered five loaded guns, including two assault rifles equipped with high-capacity magazines, during a February 2022 search of his home, marking a serious violation given Tatum’s status as a felon at the time.
In addition to his prison term, Tatum will also serve three years of supervised release and forfeit over $148,000 in cash along with the seized weapons. The case, part of a larger investigation involving Homeland Security Investigations and the California Highway Patrol, underscores ongoing concerns regarding illegal firearms in urban areas.
