Army Fitness Test Overhauled with New Standards

The U.S. Army announces significant changes to its fitness assessment, transitioning from the “Army Combat Fitness Test” to the “Army Fitness Test,” effective June 2025. Among the most notable revisions is the removal of the Standing Power Throw, a much-criticized event that soldiers often deemed impractical, replacing it with updated performance benchmarks aimed at higher standards for combat roles including infantry and Special Forces.

This revamped testing format implements new gender-neutral scoring criteria, requiring combat soldiers to achieve at least 60 points in each event and an overall score of 350. As the Army seeks to enhance physical readiness, this reform responds to long-standing criticism over fitness standards while simplifying the evaluation process for various military roles.
