The San Diego Police Department has released body camera and surveillance footage from a deadly shooting that took place in the Stockton area on April 4th. The incident began when police responded to reports that 20-year-old Kevin Gonzalez pointed a gun at someone, leading officers to him inside a vehicle, where they attempted to negotiate with him for approximately 40 minutes.
During the negotiation, police deployed less-lethal measures, including pepper balls, before firing upon Gonzalez, who allegedly displayed what appeared to be a firearm. Authorities later confirmed it was a BB gun, raising questions about how officers assess perceived threats. Law enforcement expert Kevin LaChapelle highlighted the challenge officers face in differentiating between real guns and realistic replicas, emphasizing the swift actions required in such tense situations.
