Gabriel Chavez, a 19-year-old from Petaluma, has been arrested following a shooting incident that occurred during a dispute on Saturday night. According to the Sonoma Sheriff’s Office, Chavez allegedly fired a handgun towards an individual after being asked to move a pickup truck that obstructed access to a property. After leaving the scene, he crashed the truck, leading to his arrest and the recovery of an unregistered firearm, five high-capacity magazines, and 48 rounds of ammunition hidden nearby.
Authorities have charged Chavez with several serious offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm. He currently remains in custody with a bail set at $75,000. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about gun safety and firearm regulations, prompting questions about how such weapons are accessible to young individuals in the community.
