Brendan Iber, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, notes that the agency traces the intercepted firearms back to their original buyers, aiming to disrupt illicit sales known as straw purchases. Meanwhile, Mexico’s ongoing lawsuits against U.S. gun manufacturers highlight a contentious battle over the influence of American firearms on violence in Mexico, making this issue a pressing concern for both nations.
