Chula Vista Man Gets 11 Years for Assault on ATF Agent

Jonathan Manuel Flores, a 20-year-old from Chula Vista, is sentenced to 135 months in federal prison after assaulting an undercover ATF agent during a failed gun sale. The incident, which took place in a Walmart parking lot in San Diego, involved Flores attempting to sell a Glock pistol equipped with an illegal “Glock Switch” before resorting to violence when the deal went awry.

The case highlights concerns over the rising threats posed by illegal firearm trafficking and the dangers faced by law enforcement. U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon underscores the serious ramifications of such actions, emphasizing the need to safeguard communities from violent offenders engaged in illegal firearms trade. With Flores facing multiple charges, including the assault of a federal officer, his lengthy sentence sends a strong message about the consequences of firearm-related crimes.
