Wyoming Approves Concealed Firearms in State Buildings

Officials in Wyoming are nearing the completion of rules that will allow the public to carry concealed firearms in state-owned buildings, implementing significant changes mandated by the recently passed “Wyoming Repeal Gun Free Zones Act.” This legislation, passed by lawmakers in late February, repeals restrictions on carrying firearms in various public spaces, including state colleges and government buildings, and will take effect on July 1, 2025.

The State Building Commission is currently reviewing these new rules to ensure they align with the recent changes in state law. Among the discussions is the potential impact on lease agreements for privately owned facilities used by state agencies, as concerns over insurance and safety implications arise. As state officials work toward finalizing the rules, important questions remain regarding negotiations for carrying rights in leases, reflecting a broader debate on firearms in public spaces.
