The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating two police shootings in Chicago that occurred early Monday morning, one resulting in the death of a suspect. The first incident took place around 2:50 a.m. at an assisted-living facility where police responded to reports of a man armed with a knife who was threatening residents, ultimately leading to officers fatally shooting him after failed attempts to subdue him with Tasers.
Shortly after, at approximately 3:05 a.m., officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the Roseland neighborhood. An off-duty officer confronted the suspect during the incident, resulting in the suspect being shot and taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Both shooting incidents have prompted a COPA investigation, and the officers involved have been placed on administrative duties as standard procedure.
