Iowa DNR Considers New Hunting Regulations After Feedback

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is actively reviewing public input as it considers potential changes to hunting and trapping regulations. During a recent Natural Resources Commission meeting, Chris Ensminger highlighted that over 427 comments were received concerning deer hunting alone, with a significant portion urging changes such as limiting the number of antlerless tags and promoting a one-buck limit across all gun seasons.

Further discussions revealed a strong interest in establishing a bobcat hunting season in additional counties and amending bag limits for various species. Interestingly, 80% of feedback suggested more stringent regulations for non-resident hunters, indicating a clear divide among constituents. The DNR plans to hold additional public meetings from May 19-21 to refine their regulatory proposals based on this feedback, with new rules potentially set to be implemented in 2026.
