Honolulu police and state law enforcement officials are advocating for new federal legislation designed to monitor components used in the creation of ghost guns. At a recent press conference, both Honolulu Police Chief Arthur “Joe” Logan and Mike Lambert, director of the state Department of Law Enforcement, emphasized the urgency of tackling the growing issue of untraceable firearms, especially 3D-printed models that pose significant public safety risks.
The proposed legislation aims to tighten regulations on parts like auto sear devices, which can convert semi-automatic rifles into fully automatic weapons. With ghost guns increasingly involved in crime, U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda joined local leaders to discuss innovative strategies to prevent the proliferation of homemade guns lacking serial numbers, highlighting a pressing concern in Hawaii’s fight against illegal firearms.
