School Board Discusses Concealed Carry Policy Feedback

The Natrona County School Board recently held its first public comment session regarding a controversial policy allowing teachers and volunteers to conceal carry handguns on school grounds. A few community members voiced their concerns, particularly about the extensive training requirements—40 hours of live-fire training and additional scenario-based classes, including eight hours focused on medical response.

One key participant, Kip Marchant, highlighted the challenges posed by such extensive hour requirements, suggesting it may hinder qualified candidates from meeting the policy’s standards. In conjunction with the discussions, Eric Paulson of the Wyoming Patriots aims to enhance school safety by offering free “Stop the Bleed” training and emergency medical kits to educators, emphasizing a proactive approach to student safety in the district.
