This device, known as a Forced Reset Trigger (FRT), had previously been classified as an illegal machine gun by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in 2022, leading to ongoing legal battles. Democrats and gun safety organizations strongly criticize the settlement, asserting it jeopardizes public safety by allowing lethal firearms to be purchased without background checks, potentially increasing the risk of mass shootings.
